Location: Fairfax, Virginia (On-Site)
Type: Full time
Salary: $100,000 to $150,000. We set your offer within that range by your experience.
Reports to: Director of Engineering
What you own
You own the infrastructure that runs MyStudio. Our customers run martial arts studios, children's coding franchises, and similar activity brands. They teach classes seven days a week and need our software to work during every one of them.
You join an engineering team that works in squads and releases several times a week. Your job is to make those releases predictable. You build the pipelines, write the infrastructure code, and set up the monitoring that catches a problem before a studio owner calls support.
What you do
- Build and maintain the deployment pipelines for our Amazon Web Services and Vercel environments.
- Define infrastructure as code in Terraform. Keep production, staging, and development consistent with each other.
- Set up monitoring, alerting, and log collection so that the team sees failures early.
- Remove alerts that need no action, so that an on-call page always means something.
- Manage Amazon Web Services identity and access roles. Run access reviews and produce the evidence that our SOC 2 and PCI DSS audits need.
- Track and reduce our cloud spend. Report the monthly total and what changed it.
- Write runbooks for the rest of engineering.
- Share an on-call rotation with the engineers.
What you need
- You have two to five years running production infrastructure for a software product.
- You know Amazon Web Services well enough to explain which services drive a monthly bill.
- You write infrastructure as code, ideally in Terraform.
- You have built continuous integration and delivery pipelines.
- You work comfortably on Linux and in one scripting language, such as Python, Bash, or Go.
- You have used monitoring and log tools, such as Amazon CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, OpenSearch, or Elasticsearch.
- You write clearly in English, and you document what you build.
We do not require a degree or a certification.
Nice-to-Have
- Vercel, Next.js, or another frontend hosting platform.
- SOC 2, PCI DSS, or another audited control framework.
- Docker, or container orchestration such as Amazon Elastic Container Service.
- Database operations on Amazon Relational Database Service, including backups, restores, and migrations.
- Cost reduction work where you can state the amount you saved.
